Geothermal: unlimited, affordable, on-demand renewable energy

A decade ago, the Union of Concerned Scientists published a paper “How Geothermal Energy Works.” It reported that the heat within 10,000 meters of the Earth’s surface offers 50,000 times more energy than all the world’s oil and natural gas resources. The problem is making that energy available.

Hot spots occur at tectonic plate boundaries or where the crust is thin enough to let heat through. The Pacific Rim, has many hot spots, including places in western North America. Various forms of geothermal are explained here:

There has been little commitment to geothermal energy but one Canadian company intends to change that. Calgary-based Eavor Technologies Inc. — reported on HERE a year ago — believes it has an effective way of harnessing geothermal energy. Eavor says their conduction system has these benefits:

  • Predictable and reliable,
  • No fracking,
  • No earthquake risk,
  • No contaminated acquirers,
  • No water use,
  • Efficient,
  • Scalable,
  • Affordable.

Dave Borlace, the credible producer of YouTube channel ‘Just Have a Think’ talked with Eavor’s Chief Technology Officer Matt Toews. The video is worth our attention.
