After the article Prepare for electric rate shock, IN-SIGHTS reader Les emphasized that every bit of natural gas produced in Canada but not consumed here is exported. Transportation is the second largest source of greenhouse gases, so gas moved outside Canada is more dangerous to Earth than gas burned domestically.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is falsely mooted as “clean energy.” It leaves a carbon footprint one-third worse than coal when processing and shipping are taken into account, according to a new Cornell study.
Environmental Defence says, “Don’t buy the hype: LNG is bad for the climate.”

At my last post, always wise and articulate Lew Edwardson provided comments that focused on the hypocrisy of BC’s natural gas policies. Despite an initial conversion error, his statements provide greater clarity than mine.
Lew’s words show not just the emptiness of BC’s gas policies, but the egregiously perverse and dangerous nature of the BC government’s direction. On fossil fuels, the BC NDP is little better than Alberta’s UCP, which just rescinded the coal development ban for the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Taxpayers fund subsidies to encourage BC residential consumers to burn less natural gas, while the same taxpayers fund subsidies to encourage people in other places to burn more natural gas.
As Voltaire said, “Common sense is not so common.”
