Democracy

Democracy is at risk… everwhere!

PhD historian Giordano Nanni wrote that his main focus was “comparative colonialism in the 19th-century British Empire; and more specifically, settler-colonialism in Australia.” Nanni’s focus may have shifted because he created Juice Media, the group responsible for “Honest Government Ads.”

This video demonstrates the fragility of democracy. Some of us take it for granted; some of us don’t seem to care if it continues or is wrested away by the rich and powerful. It is worth noting that Juice Media was banned by the government of India. Apparently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not familiar with the Streisand Effect.

.

The people at Juice Media cover many subjects. One of them is Canada.

.

Another is nuclear energy. This video mentions the work of CSIRO — Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation — an Australian Government agency responsible for scientific research and its commercial and industrial applications.

.

A 2025 report from CSIRO makes these points:

  • Renewables – including costs associated with additional storage and transmission – remain the lowest cost, new build technology.
  • Nuclear power is more expensive than renewables and takes at least 15 years to develop.
  • Large scale solar PV remains the strongest performer, falling 8 percent for the second year in a row.
  • Battery costs record the biggest annual reduction, falling 20 percent.

Those facts do not prevent a BC organization funded by the resources industry from promoting nuclear energy as a legitimate option. That group, involving a former minister in Christy Clark’s pay-to-play government, wants BC to retract its 2008 ban on uranium production.
