Geothermal — clean, non-destructive renewable energy

Traditional geothermal failed to produce clean heat and electricity for the people of the German town of Geretsried. But now Calgary’s Eavor Technologies, using directional deep drilling technologies developed in the oil and gas industry, is starting its first commercial power plant in Geretsried.

Eavor says the main difference in their system is scalability. Traditional geothermal requires very rare conditions and the Canadian company thinks it can apply its technologies almost anywhere. Eavor’s German project will start generating electricity in 2025 and then provide energy for the town’s district heating system.

The International Energy Agency says recently developed technology unlocks huge potential for geothermal energy.

  1. The potential for advanced geothermal is enormous and provides a golden transition opportunity for our oil & gas workforce. I do not understand why BC continues to invest in a sunset industry like LNG when advanced geothermal is unfolding in front of us. A real head shaker.
