IN-SIGHTS reader, environmentalist, and businessman Pat McCutcheon believes Justin Trudeau has tied one hand behind his back while responding against the country that aims to destroy Canada:
The federal government awarded a $3.15 billion ship building contract today to Seaspan. In our current trade war with the US this seems strange.
Seaspan is owned by the US based Washington Group. Earlier this week Trudeau firmly stated that government procurement would only be awarded to Canadian companies.

Canada is facing a crisis. Now is not the time to reward the nation that made itself our enemy.

Yes Seaspan is owned by an American, BUT that American has employed thousands of British Columbians since the early 1070’s, invested lots of money in North Vancouver and Victoria, and pretty much saved the big ship building business in western Canada. I am pretty sure the Washingtons are not big fans of Trump.

Came to say the same plus
” Seaspan, is part of the Washington Companies that are owned by Dennis Washington. Kyle Washington (son of Dennis Washington), is the Executive Chairman of Seaspan, who has become a … Canadian citizen.”
The most american part of seaspan is the Washington surname
“Where is Seaspan Corporation located?
Our three main operating offices are located in Hong Kong, Vancouver, Canada and Mumbai, India. Our corporate and technical teams operate from each global location and our crewing department is located in Mumbai, India and arranges the majority of our recruitment and training requirements for seafarers. ”
Even the Vancouver is the Canadian one.
So I think “IN-SIGHTS reader, environmentalist, and businessman Pat McCutcheon” might be doing a little pro ‘lil pp, anti- JT trolling. Enjoy the red herring.

Dennis Washington donated $1,000,000 to Trump’s 2020 election campaign. Strange thing to do for a guy that doesn’t support him.
He also wired some pretty heavy cash to Trump’s pick here:
Employing people to amass a fortune or buying up companies built by others and renaming them is not an indicator of altruism. Trump and Elon Musk are two prime and current examples of that. Nor is it an indicator of demonism, although supporting demons is not a good look.
That support may however, ultimately get Seaspan and BC some action if Trump remembers who paid to play. He wants ships in a hurry and Canada could help.

Sorry about the murky message in my post above. Since we can no longer post hyperlinks here in comments, more elaboration is required and I missed that.
Here is the source for the first point about the Trump donation:

The last point about Seaspan possibly acquiring some US contracts is part of an interesting and timely article at defensenews.com
“‘40 icebreakers are fantastic, but that is pretty aggressive – I don’t want to go against what Mr. Trump said, but I would say that the U.S. shipbuilding industry capability is pretty stressed and busy right now. … I think it’s fair to say that it is not [currently] capable of doing that,’ David Hargreaves, senior vice president of business development at Seaspan, told Defense News.
‘He also said that Canada is trying to get a part of it – what we are trying to do is be a contributor to our neighbors and help them,’ he added.”
