Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett, speaking in the House of Commons:

“(Aglukkaq) has cut programs for diabetes, youth suicide, Aboriginal health human resources. Can the minister explain to this house why her cuts target the population with the worse health outcomes in Canada, the Aboriginal people of Canada.”

Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq,

“As an Aboriginal person, I take that type of line of questioning to be unacceptable.”

Health Minister Aglukkaq accuses Liberal MP of crossing racial line during House of Commons questioning, aptn National News, April 23, 2012

“Health Canada cut all funding to the National Aboriginal Health Organization, effectively shutting it down.

“Aglukkaq has also overseen 100 per cent health funding cuts to the Native Women’s Association of Canada, the Metis National Council and the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples.

“Health Canada also cut 40 per cent of its funding to the Assembly of First Nations and the Inuit Tapriit Kanatami, which serves Aglukkaq’s own people, the Inuit.”

  1. They don't call Harper, spiteful Stevie for nothing, now do they?

If I were the F.N. people, I would sue Harper for crimes against humanity. Seeing as Harper is already, under investigation for war crimes and crimes against humanity. ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo, is deciding to do just that.

Harper is a true monster, of his Northern Foundation Party, from 1989. He is the worst P.M. in the recorded history of this nation. Harper is every bit as hateful as, Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini.

  2. Tacitus – 2000 years ago – “What service warrants the good will of Tyrants : Crimes on their behalf.”

Another stunning betrayal of trust and humanity.

Does no one in this um, party (a conclave of psychopaths?) have a conscience? No one can perceive any problem with gutting health services?

Wasn't global awareness of Attawapiskat sufficient proof of Ottawa's gross and malign negligence? Is anyone still in doubt why the conservatives shed the term “Progressive”?

And how odd is it that no other major media outlet has carried details of this story? [CBC where are you? Winston Smith must be busy at the memory hole.]

Here's the exception, quoting Carolyn Bennett – from? A US-based blog.

    Here are the facts:

The health budget of the Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC) was cut by 100 per cent.

The health budget of the Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada was cut by 100 per cent.

The health budget of the Métis National Council (MNC) was cut by 100 per cent.

The health budget of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) was cut by 40 per cent.

The health budget of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) was cut by 40 per cent.

The largest number of job cuts at Health Canada are in the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch. And funding for the essential work of the National Aboriginal Health Organization was permanently pulled, without being reallocated to another vehicle for collaborative, community-based Aboriginal health research.

According to the most recent data from the Public Health Agency of Canada, the tuberculosis rate among Inuit is 284 times the rate for the Canadian-born non-Aboriginal population.
