I had surgery on my left eye last December and on my right eye a week ago. The procedures went well but I must wait a while yet before new eyeglasses can be prescribed. Vision impairment results in a limited amount of reading and close-up work.
A number of pieces are in preparation and I expect to restart blogging soon. However, because I’m also involved in other activities, the pace of publication at In-Sights will reduce from what it has been during the past five years.
A number have asked privately if I have information about Alex G. Tsakumis and his site, Rebel with a Clause. Sorry to say, I do not. I’m looking forward to his return because we need him. To paraphrase Mr. Dooley, the Irish bartender:

Five dollars? I get my reading glasses for $1.79 each at this tarp&tool discount place near here. Bi-focalism for me means a pair of short glasses on my nose and another pair of taller lenses riding on my brow which I can shake out of their bushy nest with an only slightly menacing rhythmic grimace. I haven't found a use for the inevitable tri-focalism of the taller and shorter lenses superimposed and to reverse the process, at least one finger has to be used but for $1.79 it works pretty well. The secret is selecting the wider-hinged models–most of these cheap storm windows break at the hinge—and not being too sartorially picky or too fashion self-conscious, which I have certainly never been. I buy $20 worth at a time and they get spread throughout my house, woodshed, shop and vehicle; being almost always within reach of a pair of specs, I end up neglecting inventory until I notice, usually at the most inconvenient time, I can't find any glasses—they've been either lost or have all migrated to my glovey. Then it's back to the discount place to see what colours they have on offer.

Hope all is well and that the surgery is now out of the way. I had lasar treatment for astigmatism and myopia and it has been a great success. Been 19 years since and I can get by with $5.00 reading glasses from the dollar store nowadays, instead of the expensive $450 glasses I used to have to wear.
Speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you posting again in the near future.

very happy to hear your eye surgery went well! Its nice to read the update. Will look forward to your posts, when your eye sight is up to it. In the meantime, enjoy life and family. One can not live by blogging alone.
A few weeks ago I checked AGT's site and there was something else there, so I emailed AGT. He advised the website was still under construction and he was busy working. As I recall his last post at the end of Jan. advised the new blog would be up sometime in march. We all miss his comments, however the guy does have a wife, 3 kids, aging parents, other assorted family and friends and oh, he has a business to run. I'm just waiting until sometime in March to see the new blog. I don't know if AGT does face book. If you check some of his older posts you may find out whether he does or not. To the best of my recollection, he has commented on not using twitter.

Speedy recovery Mr Farrell. Hope to read more of your analysis showing howuch is being given away by the liberals lately. Another $120 Million in the last few days to keep more Albertans employed in the Northeast and a bunch of changes to the Oil and Gas Actuvities Act that no doubt allow easier subsidized plunder with little job creation.

Oh good, Norm! I hope your eye-work goes as well as a growing number of my friends and relatives who have availed themselves of this awesome technology. Most of 'em, after years of failing eyesight—even some after a lifetime of imperfect vision—are like little kids on Christmas Eve, suffering the seemingly unbearable last little bit of waiting for the wrappers to come off. If you're as fortunate as my most recent friend to have eye-surgery, and I hope you are, you'll find shopping for eye-glasses at the dollar-store carousel the polar opposite to expensively unique prescription glasses. Soon come.
We'll be glad whenever you get back—it'll make that last little bit of waiting all worth it.
