I wonder if smart meters also make it easier to divide and sell the residential supply aspect of the operation. Presumably the meters would allow discrete blocks to be handled by different “providers” to a level where you could enter into an arrangement with a different company than your neighbour, much like what they did with natural gas.
I kept the letter I got in 2012 from BC Hydro about the smart meters. It says the new meters will help make electricity more affordable. I guess hydro rates are going down then. Right?
