A Berkely Earth email today reminds us that serious actions to address climate change should not be delayed.
Berkeley Earth, a California-based non-profit research organization, has been preparing independent analyses of global mean temperature changes since 2013. The following is our report on global mean temperature during 2023.
We conclude that 2023 was the warmest year on Earth since 1850, exceeding the previous record set in 2016 by a clear and definitive margin. …This is the first time that any year has exceeded the key 1.5 °C (2.7 °F) threshold.
The last nine years have included all nine of the warmest years observed in the instrumental record. The long-term trend towards higher temperatures is being driven by man-made global warming…

The problem with climate change is that the government is doing absolutely nothing about.
Oh yes the Carbon Tax, well that is nothing more than a placebo to hide government inaction by pretending the government is doing something. Bureaucrats have convinced politicians that higher and more taxes, by hurting the taxpayer, will make them think that the government is actually doing something.
The problem in Canada, real action by government for climate change is that they would have to confront multi-national corporations and that the government will not do.
forget about the electric car, which is another “Climate change” placebo offered by government. The huge cost of electric cars means a large segment of the population will be left immobile and poor.
Canada needs a large network of regional railways, just like what is happening in Europe, but again the civic, provincial and federal governments are dearly afraid to deal with both the CNR and the CPR, so all the hype and hoopla about the electric car.
We are building gold plated rapid transit lines designed to win elections and not move people. This means the billions and billions of dollars wasted for a few km of SkyTrain doesn’t do much or anything to mitigate climate change. We have electric trolleybuses but the routes are becoming fewer and fewer.
We need mass reforestation , but the province is not interested.
We need to distribute BC population out of the lower mainland into the province as a whole, which means better communications healthcare and education. Not happening as the current government thinking is to concentrate the majority of the population in the lower mainland to keep election expenses down and to ignore the rest of the province. imply it is easier to win elections if the majority of the population lives in the lower mainland!
he housing issue is a canard as it is nothing more than a massive land rush created by Vision Vancouver and the doctrine now used by Premier Eby, of the Vision Vancouver Provincial Party. or the VVPP.
Climate change, nothing to see here as government is using climate change as an excuse to tax us all into poverty.
