A candidate for the People’s Party of Canada asked if I would join his podcast for a discussion of government functions. Having no interest in promoting or assisting that party, I declined.
So, who are the people who support the People’s Party?
- People who tolerate fascists, antisemites, racists, and extremists among their associates.
- People who deny climate science and want Canada to withdraw from international programs that aim to mitigate harms from climate disasters.
- People who wrongly argue there has been no disappearance of polar ice and no rise in ocean levels.
- People who reject the scientific consensus that climate change is causing extreme weather across the planet.
- People who want to deregulate oil and gas, increase fossil fuel production, end the carbon tax, and abolish government support for green technologies.
- People who would end all foreign aid, including that intended to help poor nations adapt to climate change.
- People who would minimize Canada’s involvement in programs of The United Nations.
- People who would stop assistance to Ukraine as that nation defends itself from Russian aggression.
- People who believe self-interest ranks above all and who dismiss the notion of an empathetic society.
- People who have little concern for vulnerable individuals and embrace a system where the wealthy benefit disproportionately while the less fortunate are left behind.
- People made uncomfortable by a multicultural society.
- People who would discourage immigration from third world countries, would restrict family reunions, and end government support for refugees fleeing life-threatening conditions.
- People who object to vaccination programs and oppose measures taken by health experts to protect human lives.
- People who would end federal health grants and privatize Canada’s medical system. They believe the private system that causes two-thirds of personal bankruptcies in the USA is somehow superior.
- People who oppose women’s right to control their own fertility and exercise reproductive autonomy.
No doubt, I have missed a few descriptions that make this political party what it is: a home for the radical far-right.

Just a coincidence that their initials are PP?
Looks like a fringe alternative for those who aren’t going to vote for a progressive party.
Here’s hoping they gain some traction and dilute the PP vote.

Hello, I am the People’s Party candidate that reached out to you. My podcast is a non combative format. Guests come on and share their perspective with the public. I am officially extending an olive branch to you, sir. Hope you will reconsider 🙂

I took the time to visit Mr. Askari’s website. The first thing I noticed was that there was no denial of climate change. Because it isn’t even discussed. How is it possible to consider someone running for federal public office a serious candidate if they don’t address such a crucial and topical issue?
He does list his views on other important issues however, and after reading them I must conclude that Norm’s instincts were accurate.
Mr. Askari needs Norm much more than Norm needs Mr. Askari. In my opinion that also applies to Mr. Askari’s relationship with public office.

I think it is safe to say one must avoid any politcal party that has “People’s” included in its name.
