Philosopher and cultural critic Fredric Jameson (1934-2024) published An American Utopia in 2016. It included this assertion by Jameson:
All politics is about real estate. Postmodern politics is essentially a matter of land grabs, on a local as well as a global scale.
Whether you think of the question of Palestine, the settlements and the camps, or of the politics of raw materials and extraction; whether you think of ecology (and the rainforests) or the problems of federalism, citizenship, and immigration, or whether it is a question of gentrification in the great cities as well as in the shanty towns and the townships and of course the movement of the landless today everything is about land.
Leftist Protean Magazine expanded on Jameson’s statements:
Already true enough during the initial ascendancy of the slumlord-in-chief, Jameson’s hypothesis is being further verified today in the most grotesque of fashions in what The New York Times—dutifully “sane-washing” every indignity meted out against the Palestinian people—refers to as the “Gaza development plan.”
On multiple occasions, and notoriously during the state visit of the Israeli PM, wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump has rehearsed the idea of transferring the entire population of the Gaza Strip to other countries, notably Jordan and Egypt, before clearing the rubble of the genocide and transforming the territory into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan retorted that ‘Trump’s statements about Gaza reveal the nature of the American mindset and its real estate-based view of homelands…
Even to those long grown inured to the inanities and obscenities that flow ceaselessly from POTUS, the compounded evil and banality of building resorts on mass graves boggles the mind. After decades of obstructing Palestinian claims to self-determination and international law provisions against apartheid, annexation of land, forced population transfer and ethnic cleansing, U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide under the Biden-Harris administration has now morphed into a complete jettisoning not just of a vestigial “rules-based international order” but of the very idea of sovereignty claims binding together states, territories, and populations….
SLUMLORD EMPIRE
Peter Navarro is Donald Trump’s senior counselor for trade and manufacturing. In 2024, he served a jail sentence of four months for contempt of Congress. According to the UK’s Telegraph newspaper, Navarro has threatened to redraw the Canadian border. That falls short of Trump’s plan to annex Canada, but statements of the American President and his ex-convict advisor suggest that Professor Jameson was correct when he said politics is essentially a matter of land grabs. The USA desires Canada for its oil and fresh water, and Trump wants to deliver the Arctic to his Russian patrons.
I suspect this is NOT the border revision that Navarro has in mind:

In recent years, Israel has developed energy dependence on offshore gas, built extensive seawater desalination and expanded its navy’s platforms and missions. Trump may want to build resorts and golf courses, but Israel wants to control the eastern Mediterranean. Peace is not desired when there is land to grab.

Enjoyed the read. Expand, expand, expand. They who own the land own everything. Trump’s land grab is crazy and would cause the deaths of most of the people who call Gaza home. Trump reminds me of Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot.
What is shocking is that not many politicians objected. Some one ought to have started the impeachment process against him. It may have not been successful but at least it would have sent a message. Moving all the citizens of Gaza would have lead to the deaths of tens of thousands. I do believe the killing of tens of thousands is usually referred to as genocide and the last time checked that was illegal. You may not like Hamas or the people of Gaza but remember if some one is willing to kill tens of thousands of people one of these days they will come for you.
