Conservatives (CPC)

Ever-Trumper time

I recently referred to Pierre Poilievre saying that he told Alberta Conservative Danielle Smith to, “Be ready, when I win, we need your help.” Canadians had better be ready for what that may mean:

  • An end to women’s reproductive rights,
  • An end to public education,
  • Climate change denial,
  • Public policies made in the boardrooms of international oil companies.
  • Adoption of Trump’s anti-democratic style of autocracy.

As reported by David Climenhaga in The Tyee:

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s refusal to sign the joint statement in which all other premiers agreed to a co-ordinated response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs on Canadian exports significantly undermined Canada’s bargaining position, Canada’s former chief trade negotiator says.

A few decades ago, my family lived in Alberta while I was on an 18-month work assignment. The day we moved into a rented Edmonton house, neighbours approached and welcomed us to the neighbourhood and offered to assist with anything we needed. I worked with a great group of people, and we soon enjoyed the many cultural and entertainment events offered in the city.

I remember visiting an agricultural family in Saskatchewan very early one morning after a nighttime drive from Alberta. Their large kitchen was soon full of family members and neighbours who arrived to drink coffee and chat about grains, animals, and children. It also became apparent that visitors were there to ensure the seniors who had farmed the lands for many years did not need assistance that day.

I admired the spirit of cooperation we saw in rural Saskatchewan. We felt sad when we left Edmonton and our Alberta friends. I wonder if there has truly been a behavioural shift in those provinces, caused at least in part by fly-in, fly-out communities filled with transient workers with few connections to the places they work.

Great communities always involve great neighbourhoods, where people care about each other. I fear that is being lost in these days when too many people seem to favour animosity and confrontation over respect and consideration.

Voters ought not to license this kind of behaviour. Apparently, it’s okay with a man who wants to be Prime Minister.

  1. Danielle Smith, is the Canadian version of a Quisling and will sell out the country for “30 pieces of silver”. Her scandal ridden government is really a microcosm of right wing politics, lie, cheat, deny, and lie again.

Today’s conservatives are a mixture of religious and politcal extremists, who are anti-science and anti-learning. They want to force their belief on everyone and woe to those who are non-believers.

Today’s Conservatives firmly believe the end, justifies the means and will use that doctrine over and over again, brow beating the public every way they can.

    Danielle Smith, proves the point.
