I wonder. Do politicians lie because they think Canadians are collectively stupid, or do they lie because we are?

We know what conservative is. It’s as necessary as progressive. They balance each other, both needed. What we have here is something else entirely, extremist. Hence PP’s comment is relevant entirely in the opposite way intended. That this isn’t obvious indicates a hypnotized population. …another flashback to 1930’s. Could anything be more worrying?

Politicians lie because they believe that Canadians can’t handle the truth. There is also the Goebels Gambit to consider; “Repeat a lie often enough and the public begins to believe it”.

In 1998 Larry Tye published a book called SPIN.
While receiving hospital physiotherapy for a broken limb someone noticed what I was reading – could they borrow the book.
I never got the book back. It circulated so fast no one was sure who had it. Small wonder.
SPIN covers the history of PR. And finds time to focus on a relative of Sigmund Freud, Edward Bernays.
Bernays’ influence? Vast.
His work? A how-to blueprint so companies and politicians can lie nonstop and pretend they’re doing heroic work entirely in the public interest.
The difference between PR and blatant propaganda? Mostly Cosmetic.
Rather than try to condense SPIN here [304 pages] here’s a synopsis.

Since I was born the number of people who lie for a living is staggering. Lying has become an industry.
