Inequality

Exciting times?

American comedian Tom Papa says individual billionaires should be allowed to keep their enormous wealth, by only for a few hours.

  1. Not just billionaires, but all the rest of us…perhaps if it were not so easy to feel uneasy about day-to-day existence, were economic stability not so ephemeral, perhaps we might all be convinced to muster the resources to ensure that no one lacks for the stuff that makes life liveable and, perhaps even joyous. No more hospital lotteries, no more charity bike rides, runs and the like, no more top-heavy NGO bureaucracies to distribute the crumbs falling off the table, and a whole generation of foundation grant writers finding more fulfilling work. Also the exchange of encampments for communities, of long waits in understaffed emergency departments, the end of lonely overdoses: all of this is possible, but looks like a highway sign retreating in the rearview mirror as we continue to leave resources in the hands of the most rapacious and fail to rebuild our social structures based on mutual aid and long-term resilience, just as the next wave of austerity is being rolled out.

  2. “Where’s the beef?” An urgent question revisited

    https://www.reuters.com/world/china/under-trump-us-cedes-its-share-chinas-beef-market-australia-2025-09-29/

“CANBERRA/CHICAGO, Sept 29 (Reuters) – Australian beef has replaced U.S. supply in China since President Donald Trump returned to the White House, funnelling hundreds of millions of dollars that have in previous years gone to the U.S. cattle industry into Australian pockets.”

“U.S. shipments to China, worth around $120 million a month, collapsed after Beijing in March allowed permits to expire at hundreds of American meat facilities and as Trump unleashed a tit-for-tat tariff war.”

“Other U.S. farm exports to China, the world’s biggest food importer, have also suffered since Trump retook power. On soybeans alone, U.S. farmers have lost out on shipments worth billions of dollars during the current harvest season.”

“U.S. beef exports have in general declined in recent years as drought shrank the country’s cattle herd, reducing production and pushing prices to record highs. But the drop in trade with China has been far more sudden and extreme.”

“The value of U.S. beef sent to China fell to just $8.1 million in July and $9.5 million in August, Chinese trade data showed, compared to $118 million and $125 million in the same months a year earlier.”

The America/China Soybean market? It’s now Argentina’s. A country in so much financial trouble that it just qualified for a $20 billion loan from DJT.

FOX News strenuously disagrees that anything’s amiss.

Who will bail out distressed US farmers?

    https://crooksandliars.com/2025/09/trump-has-bribe-farmers-stay-republican

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/other/trump-says-tariff-revenue-will-fund-relief-for-us-farmers/ar-AA1NjzrV?ocid=BingNewsSerp

“(Bloomberg) — President Donald Trump said his administration will use funds collected from tariffs to assist beleaguered US farmers, previewing an impending bailout for an agriculture sector hit hard by his trade policies.”

““We’re going to take some of that tariff money that we’ve made, we’re going to give it to our farmers, who are — for a little while — going to be hurt until it kicks in, the tariffs kick in to their benefit,” Trump said Thursday at the White House.”

Wait. Isn’t the redistribution of wealth (gulp) Socialism?

    https://academic.oup.com/book/55905/chapter-abstract/439300393?redirectedFrom=fulltext

“This chapter considers the question of inequality in relation to overall well-being. Given that money has diminishing marginal utility, there is obvious reason to expect that we would increase overall well-being by diminishing inequality. Capitalists have two replies: first, if we diminish inequality by redistributing wealth, we will destroy incentives and have less wealth overall; second, concerns about inequality really just stem from the petty emotion of envy. This chapter points to empirical data indicating that both replies are wrong. Work by economists indicates that we could make our taxation system far more progressive while not diminishing productivity or tax revenues. Data put together by social scientists Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett show that wealth inequality is toxic to human well-being.”

  3. Speaking of Canadian Satire the Beaverton provided this …

“US Ambassador threatens to tariff, annex, and bomb Canada if anti-American sentiment doesn’t improve”

    https://thebeaverton.com/2025/09/us-ambassador-threatens-to-tariff-annex-and-bomb-canada-if-anti-american-sentiment-doesnt-improve/

“OTTAWA – U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra has vowed to improve anti-American sentiment he sees in Canada, no matter how many illegal tariffs, forced annexations, or literal bombs it takes to do it.”

““I’m disappointed that I came to Canada,” Hoekstra said during a public event in Halifax. “A Canada that it would be very easy to target with 500% steel tariffs, or one patriot missile aimed at Parliament Hill, I might add.””

“The Ambassador added, “We need to take the tone and tenor of the debate down, and by ‘we’ I mean ‘entirely Canada’ because you are all weak losers who would be better off as the 51st State.”>

“Hoekstra then poured out a bottle of Labatt Blue while spitting on a photo of Terry Fox, before decrying how “it’s so difficult to find Canadians who are passionate about the American-Canadian relationship”.”

“After expressing frustration over the lack of pro-American sentiment among Canadians, Hoekstra clarified that comments made by President Trump are “completely different, you pathetic soyboy canucks.””

““When our own glorious President Trump, long may he reign, threatens to kick Canada out of the 5 Eyes intelligence group, or to economically annex your crappy country, that comes from a place of love,” Hoekstra added while kicking a live beaver.”

  4. What do right-thinking Americans want to see their favourite president doing? The adults referred to as Conservative may express doubts.

Picture any other current head of state ever creating a fake retribution video and you’ll understand how far the American Political system has declined.

“The short video, shared on Mr. Trump’s Truth Social account late Saturday, was posted on the same day that protesters participated in a daylong mass demonstration, known as “No Kings,” against the Trump administration.

The protests were held in cities and towns in all 50 states, with participants holding signs such as “I Pledge Allegiance to No King” and chanting slogans against the president, accusing him of acting in authoritarian ways.”

“The fake video, set to the song “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins, shows the plane dropping a brown liquid resembling feces onto the heads of protesters, who appeared to be gathered in a city.”

“Instead of asking why Trump isn’t in a mental institution where he belongs, our pathetic excuse for the media in the United States did their best to sanewash his insane post depicting himself shitting all over the No Kings protesters.”

    The actual video:

In case his jet plane attack-the-protesting-public fantasy wasn’t sufficiently impressive – there’s another.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-terms-limits-truth-social-meme-b2848350.html

“President Donald Trump has upped the ante in his trolling of Democrats worried about the prospect of him abolishing term limits to cling onto power with a new video in which he threatens to run for office “4EVA.”

“In the clip posted to Truth Social on Sunday, a mock Time magazine cover is shown with the headline, “How Trumpism Outlasts Trump,” which is then zoomed in on to reveal a series of yard signs carrying the future campaign slogans “Trump 2028,” “Trump 2032,” “Trump 2036” and so on, all set to Edvard Grieg’s ominous “In the Hall of the Mountain King.””

These items will be studied by world leaders (and psychologists) everywhere on earth and may help determine whether America during Trump’s reign can be trusted to keep its word. .
