I’ve been arguing here about the need for improved police oversight and accountability. Despite leading all provinces of Canada in in-custody deaths, British Columbia has de-emphasized reform. Talks for renewal of the RCMP contract go on behind closed doors with no effort to gain further public input.
Rather than re-listing the issues of need, I invite you to read this article from ProPublica. It demonstrates what can happen when civilian control becomes inoperative.

It is disgusting that the scum bag remained a cop for as long as he did. Good Lord; he should have been put in jail years ago.
I followed one of the links to see some of the 50 complaints against this dirt bag. Here is a copy and paste from one of them, “Scheuermann ordered two female officers to search the buttocks and vaginas of three females — a 51-year-old, a 23-year-old and a 1-year-old. The police said they were looking for a shotgun, a rifle, two body armor vests, two license plates, a flashlight and a holster.”
Is he really stupid enough to think that the things they were looking could be “hidden” were he had the others look. NOT! He did it, and all the other vile things, because he is a psychopath.
