Years ago, veteran war correspondent Robert Fisk warned against equating criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism. He argued that conflating opposition to Israeli government policies with hostility toward Jewish people served to suppress debate and protect the state from legitimate criticism.

Fisk produced a great deal of brave reporting from dangerous conflict zones. He had a more peaceful connection to Canada because he married Nelofer Pazira, an Afghan-Canadian journalist, author, and human rights activist. Pazira graduated from Carleton University’s school of journalism and was a co-writer of a movie about Fisk.
