Canada as “totalitarian hell hole”

A familiar axiom that says, “People can be judged by the company they keep.” Crime family movies use the phrase, “Any friend of yours is a friend of mine.” I was reminded of those words while watching a video of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre in a long and friendly conversation with controversial psychologist Jordan Peterson…

Is Canada broken? It depends…

Mark Bourrie is a Canadian journalist with an impressive resume. After he earned a BA in history, Ontario universities awarded Bourrie a diploma in public policy and administration, a master’s degree in journalism, a doctorate in Canadian media history, and a law degree. This week, The Walrus published a commentary by Mark Bourrie. He says Pierre Poilievre, the “Canada Is Broken” candidate, faces a changed national mood.

Two of a kind

I have not been a fan of Trudeau’s Liberal Government. Nevertheless, all that I think is wrong with the Liberal government would be even worse if Donald Trump’s friend Pierre Poilievre moves into 24 Sussex Drive. I think Canadians need to organize today for the next federal election. The continued existence of our country may be at stake.

Froomkin on political lying and fact-check failures

That was untrue. But nowhere does it say bluntly that the Conservative leader was lying. The Globe’s headline writer avoided the harsh description and wrote, “Pierre Poilievre tells tales.”

Harperism operates in right-wing shadows

Stephen Harper is today’s éminence grise behind the Conservative Party of Canada. Since leaving the University of Calgary in 1985, Harper has been a resolute right-wing activist. After Justin Trudeau defeated Harper in 2015, the former Prime Minister has worked internationally to further right-wing objectives and promote authoritarianism…

One person, no vote

Canada’s Conservatives are committed to the Republican Party value of opposing voter fraud, if someone else is doing it. Like their American mentors, HarperCons protest electoral manipulations even more strongly when no one is doing it. Bill C-76 amends the Canada Elections Act to establish spending limits for third parties and political parties before of a general election. It also establishes measures to increase transparency regarding the participation of third parties in the electoral process. Conservatives opposed Bill C-76 from the start. They preferred the Harper Government’s C-23 legislation, which some call the unfair elections act.
